Human testing:

• Antibody testing by ELISA and Western blot
Human serum and/or CSF are tested via western blot (non-negative samples are confirmed by competition ELISA and recombinant B virus glycoprotein ELISA). Each serum sample is used for western blots with B virus, HSV-1, and HSV-2 and baseline serum is re- evaluated and subsequently paired with convalescent or follow-up serum samples. All serum samples are maintained for future follow-up testing.


• Virus isolation testing by cell culture
Human swabs, tissue and/or CSF are tested via cell-culture (non-negative samples are confirmed by PCR).


• Virus DNA testing by PCR -verified by DNA sequence analysis
Human swabs, tissue and/or CSF are tested via cell-culture (non-negative samples are confirmed by PCR and DNA Sequence analysis).

NonHuman testing:

NonHuman primate (NHP) serum and/or CSF are tested via western blot (non-negative samples are confirmed by competition ELISA and recombinant B virus glycoprotein ELISA). Each serum sample is used for western blots with B virus, HSV-1, and HSV-2 and baseline serum is re- evaluated and then paired with convalescent or follow-up serum samples. All serum samples are maintained for future follow-up testing.
